MONTRÉAL, October 14, 2026 / RMC / – On Thursday, October 15, at 10:15 a.m., the Great ShakeOut, a province-wide earthquake drill will take place. Since the island of Montréal is located in a seismic area, residents are invited to take part in this earthquake awareness and preparedness event, by taking the following action, as directed:

Drop, cover and hold on until the shaking stops.

These three simple actions could significantly change the outcome in the event of an earthquake, by reducing the risk of injury. Montréal is encouraging everyone to practice this technique, known as the safest course of action during an earthquake.

The great ShakeOut is held every year, on the third Thursday of October. It aims to raise awareness regarding the risks associated with an earthquake. As part of this drill, families, schools, businesses and organizations are encouraged to update their emergency plan, along with their emergency disaster preparedness kit. Preparedness is key in protecting yourself and your loved ones in the event of a disaster.
